(a)
The board, by and with the approval of the director, may appoint an executive officer who is exempt from the State Civil Service Act (Part 2 (commencing with Section 18500) of Division 5 of Title 2 of the Government Code).
(b)
This section shall remain in effect until January 1, 2028, and as of that date is repealed.
